“Bottoms Up” is inspired by a I photograph I took while kayaking near Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks. It was done in oil on 24″ x 12″ canvas.
I took continuous photos throughout the process to create the time lapse video at the bottom of the page. As you can see, I generally work in a “layered” approach – slowly building up the colors on the canvas.
The challenge on this painting was creating a “motion” in the water to keep the viewer’s eye continuously moving. The horizontal lines of movement in the water contrast the abstract vertical angle of the “dunking ducks” to help reinforce the visual movement in the composition.
