Dix Mountain

Dix Mountain is the sixth highest peak in the Adirondack Park, with an elevation of 4840 ft. It has a nearly bald, peaked summit which provides the best southern view of the high peaks. It’s the primary peak in the Dix Range, which also includes Hough Mountain, Macomb Mountain, South Dix Mountain and Grace Peak.

The day I chose to climb was a warm summer day with clear skies – making it one of my favorite High Peaks hikes. There are several routes to choose from to reach the peak. I chose the Hunter Pass Trail to the Beckhorn Trail to reach the top of Dix Mountain. From it’s summit, we proceeded to Hough Mountain, and then down the Lillian Brook Trail to the Elk Lake parking lot.
